(Falmouth, Massachusetts): Highfield Hall & Gardens is pleased to announce a **New**
Highfield Supper Club Series to run Fall 2020
Please join the Director of the Marine Biological Laboratory, Nipam Patel, PhD, on September 24th at 6pm for The Physics of Beauty: Structural Coloration in Butterflies. Dr. Patel’s presentation promises to lift everyone’s spirits, so come be part of the conversation and enjoy the company through a Zoom platform.
Butterflies are well known for the beautiful colors and patterns that decorate their wings. They function to attract mates, provide camouflage, or ward off predators. Many colors are created by pigments within the scales, but others, especially blues and greens, are produced by a remarkable phenomenon known as structural coloration.
In structural coloration, nanostructures, which are smaller than the wavelength of light, amplify certain colors and diminish others to create dazzling hues. On April 24th, Dr. Nipam Patel will describe a number of butterfly species that use structural coloration, and recent genetic and cellular insights into how scale cells generate the necessary materials and geometry to create these rich colors!
This Fall Highfield Hall & Gardens will present the Highfield Supper Club Series for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home! Choose one evening or as many as you like. Each Supper Club

evening will feature a three-course meal from a local restaurant, a special guest speaker, and unique gift for the evening.
Each Supper Club will begin at 6:00 pm last approximately 60-90 minutes. One week prior to your event you will receive a menu to choose your meal options. Your dinner and gift bag will arrive at your home between 4-5pm prior to the start of the dinner party. In your gift bag you will receive heating instructions for your meal, Zoom instructions to participate online, an evening program, special gift relevant to the evening.
To have your meal delivered you must be within a 20-mile radius of Falmouth. If you would like to participate in the evening without receiving a meal, we are offering a discounted ticket price. Proceeds will benefit Highfield Hall & Gardens exhibitions, gardens and programming.
