Cape Symphony Appoints Alyssa Wang to be Music Director Versatile conductor brings a focus on audience engagement to the role

Cape Symphony is delighted to announce that Alyssa Wang will be its next Music Director.
Ms. Wang was selected from over 200 initial applicants through an international search, led by a committee composed of Cape Symphony musicians, Trustees, staff, and community leaders. Five finalists each conducted a Masterpiece concert in the 2024/25 season, and audience feedback contributed to the Search Committee’s enthusiastic selection of Alyssa Wang.
Alyssa is an award-winning, passionate, and versatile conductor, violinist, and composer. She is Co-Founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Conductor of the Boston Festival Orchestra; Music Director of the Cincinnati Ballet; a member violinist of the Boston Chamber Music Society; and former Assistant Conductor of the Boston Ballet. She premiered her violin concerto, “Swept Away,” with the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh in 2023, and will premier a String Octet for Boston Chamber Music Society in 2026. She is a featured violinist in numerous recording projects, including the BCMS Art in Our Time series and Carlos Simon’s Grammy-nominated Requiem for the Enslaved.
Alyssa brings a focus on audience inclusivity and engagement to her new role. “I am thrilled to be joining the Cape Symphony community as Music Director! The Cape is a vibrant and inspiring place, and I have been deeply moved by how engaged, passionate, and welcoming its audiences are,” she says. “I can’t wait to collaborate with the extraordinary musicians of the orchestra and to create performances that connect with and reflect this remarkable community... I am eager to grow, learn, and celebrate music with all of you.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Alyssa Wang as the next Music Director of Cape Symphony,” says Robert Sigel, Chair of Cape Arts & Entertainment’s Board of Trustees. “Her artistry, creativity, and vision align beautifully with our mission, and I know she will inspire our musicians and community alike. This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our organization.”
“Alyssa brings an energy and imagination that will light up our stage and our community,” adds Executive Director Michael Albaugh. “She has a gift for connecting with people, and I can’t wait for our audiences to experience the joy she creates through music.”
Alyssa Wang will make her Cape Symphony debut at Holiday on the Cape, December 5, 6, & 7, 2025 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center.
