Cape Symphony’s annual “Holiday on the Cape” concert, led by Assistant Conductor Joe Marchio, will be held on December 6, 7, & 8 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center. The Chatham Chorale, guest vocalist Scarlett Strallen, and the Cape Symphony Dance Company will perform with the Cape Symphony Orchestra.
The concert program includes heartwarming holiday classics and beautiful carols. The Chatham Chorale will perform several pieces, joining the orchestra for “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “A Chanukah Festival” (composed by Cape Symphony Orchestra Principal Clarinetist Mark Miller), “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and others, culminating in the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah. Guest vocalist Scarlett Strallen has a long list of impressive theater credits and performs with symphonies all over the world. She has starred in Broadway and West End productions including Singin’ in the Rain at Chichester Festival Theatre and the Palace Theatre London, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She starred on Broadway as Gwendolyn in Travesties, in the title role of Mary Poppins, and as Sibella Hallward in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Ms. Strallen will join the Cape Symphony Orchestra to perform holiday favorites from “Winter Wonderland” to “O Holy Night.”
The acclaimed Cape Symphony Dance Company, under the leadership of Director of Dance Michelle Chwastiak, will perform to Jerry Brubaker’s arrangement of music from The Polar Express. At Saturday’s concerts, the Cape Symphony Youth Orchestra will proudly join the professional orchestra onstage to play Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride.”
With music from the cinematic to the sacred, including sleigh bells, soloists, and a sing-a-long, “Holiday on the Cape” promises to inspire holiday joy for one and all.
