A Whale of a Tale for an Evening will bring together film enthusiasts and Museum supporters alike for a special evening fundraiser event at Plimoth Patuxet Museums. Hosted in the Museum’s very own Plimoth Cinema on Saturday, June 1, from 6 – 9 pm, proceeds from the evening will support Plimoth Patuxet Museums and its educational mission.
The program will begin with a wine and cheese gathering in Plimoth Patuxet’s Gainsborough Hall. Guests will enjoy sipping on a selection of wines and delectable bites of artisanal cheeses, jams, seasonal nuts, and cured meats. Following the hour-long reception, they will proceed to the Linn Theater for a special screening of In The Whale. The film documents the account of Michael Packard, a man who has long been tempting fate in the shark-filled waters off Cape Cod as a commercial lobster diver.
As the region’s last-remaining commercial lobster diver, Packard is accustomed to his share of harrowing adventures, from encounters with great whites to nearly drowning. Then the unimaginable happened on a routine dive on a clear June morning, and the experience was of Biblical proportions.
Following the film, guests will enjoy a Q&A with Director David Abel, a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who covers fisheries and environmental issues for The Boston Globe, to hear his take on this fascinating story and the man who lived to tell the tale.
