Come celebrate fall with Bourne Society for Historic Preservation!

Bourne Society for Historic Preservation Holds 17th Old Time Harvest Festival

The Bourne Society for Historic Preservation, Inc. will be hosting its 17th Old Time Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Briggs-McDermott House grounds, 22 Sandwich Road in Bourne Village. This is a great family event for young and old.

The Alonzo Booth Blacksmith Shop and the Alan Green Carriage House will be open. The forge will be fired up and blacksmiths demonstrating their skills. Our antique carriage collection will be on display. Pony rides, old-time games, face painting and crafts will entertain the children for a day “unplugged”. A puppet show will be presented at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – free with admission.

Our puppet show this year will be performed by Margaret Moody puppets of Arlington, MA. Margaret has performed hand puppet shows for more than 25 years. She studied Taiwanese hand puppetry, Bu Dai Xi- with the Wan Jan troupe in Tawain, and loves to include some of the art's lively acrobatics in her own stories. The performance is entitled “Taking Turns” and displays how even adults have trouble with that sometimes!

Watch ice cream being churned and apple cider pressing. Sample treats from favorite yesteryear recipes in the 1800’s kitchen. The Country Store will offer all kinds of items for sale including: home-made fudge and breads, as well as jams and other treats. Falmouth Fiddlers’ toe-tapping music will be heard throughout the day. Clam chowder, hot dogs, and home-made apple pie will be available at lunch time. Popcorn and other treats are available throughout the day.

Fun local artisan demonstrations will be on hand: weaving, pottery, and pumpkin carving. Creative local potter, Kim Sheerin, of the Barn Pottery in Pocasset will be on site for a demonstration in pottery making. Elizabeth Henry will demonstrate the art of Saori weaving. She has been doing freestyle weaving for 6 years and teaches at the Falmouth Art Center. Pumpkin carving artist, Molly Rowland, is an art teacher at Bourne High School and is involved in various types of art form.

Join us for a day of fun. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 students (13-18) and $4 for children (4-12). The Bourne Society for Historic Preservation, Inc. is a non-profit organization, and all proceeds directly benefit historic preservation projects. For more information, call 508-563-1087.
