Wareham Walk for Homeless a Success

WAREHAM, MA

Walk for Homeless a Success

Walkers of all ages turned up for Turning Point last Sunday at the Wareham Area Clergy Association’s “Wareham Walks for the Homeless”.  After collecting sponsors, about eighty walkers from nine local churches took the five-mile trek.   Sponsorships and donations raised $14,346 for Turning Point, the south coast area’s primary resource for housing security.  “The Walk exceeded expectations”, Shirley Santos commented.  “the generosity of so many and contributions of the walkers are greatly appreciated”.

The weather was perfect for the walk that began and ended at the Church of the Good Shepherd on High Street, with a rest stop at the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene on Rogers Avenue. Water and traffic control along the route was provided by young people and walkers were treated to food and beverages donated by local businesses at the finish line.

Encouraged by the response, The Clergy Association has announced that the “Second Annual Wareham Walks for The Homeless” has been scheduled for Sunday May 19, 2024. “We’ll keep walking until everyone has a home” said event organizer Pastor Dan Bernier of the Good Shepherd.
