Cape Symphony Presents Announces Concerts in Chatham, Eastham, Wellfleet Secret Planet series connects Cape audiences with acclaimed world music artists

Cape Symphony Presents (CSP) announces live performances of world-class music from around the globe
at intimate venues in Chatham, Eastham, and Wellfleet. A co-production of CSP and Narrowland Music,
the popular Secret Planet Cape Cod series brings cutting-edge global artists of many genres to Cape
Cod, celebrating music that connects cultures.

Club d’Elf will perform at the Chatham Orpheum Theater (637 Main Street, Chatham) on Thursday,
October 1 at 7:00 PM. Club D’Elf is a collective of musicians built around bassist and composer
Mike Rivard. The band plays a fusion of Moroccan trance, dub, electronica, jazz, and improvised
funk. Rivard’s commanding sintir performance reflects years of study under Moroccan mentor Brahim
Fribgane and Gnawa masters Hassan Hakmoun and Mahmoud Guinia. Tickets are $45; purchase at

Internationally acclaimed South African guitarist Derek Gripper will play a candlelit concert at
Chapel in the Pines (220 Samoset Road, Eastham) on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 PM. Gripper
translates the deeply layered music of the West African kora onto solo classical guitar, creating a
sound that feels both ancient and entirely new. His performances draw upon South African roots,
Malian traditions, classical technique, improvisation, and storytelling. This event is a fundraiser
to support community radio station WOMR. Tickets are $35; purchase through Eventbrite.

Duo Andalus will play at Wellfleet Preservation Hall (335 Main Street, Wellfleet) on Saturday,
November 7 at 7:00 PM. The duo is vocalist Lala Tamar and flamenco guitarist and oud virtuoso Ofer
Ronen. Tamar, born to Moroccan-Brazilian Jewish parents, is a singer, poet, and guembri player;
Ronen is a musicologist and leading interpreter of flamenco and Middle Eastern music. In this
family-friendly concert, they honor the roots of three cultures as one, with songs in Arabic,

Cape Cod Healthcare Announces September Blood Drives

Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital are in urgent need of blood donations. Numerous blood drives are being held across Cape Cod in September to benefit Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC). Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital must have at least one week’s worth of blood on hand at all times. Since each unit collected or purchased only lasts 42 days, it is a constant challenge to maintain sufficient supply. All the blood collected at Cape Cod Healthcare blood drives help our families, friends and neighbors.

All donors to CCHC blood drives in September will receive a Stop & Shop gift card.

Cape Symphony Conservatory announces fall semester classes, lessons, and ensembles for children, teenagers, and adults at its West Barnstable and Falmouth campuses and its Lower Cape Extension in Brewster. Most classes begin the week of September 14.
Classes for children include:

In Music Together®, children aged 6 months–5 years enjoy musical activities in a playful setting with their grown-ups.

Music Explorers is a fun introduction to rhythm, melody, and musicianship for ages 4–6.

In Guitar Explorers, aspiring strummers aged 6–9 learn simple chords and songs.

Percussion Explorers for ages 5–7 teaches rhythm patterns and dynamics with a variety of instruments.

New this fall, Cape Symphony Youth Chorus offers singers aged 12–20 an ensemble experience focused on vocal development, musicianship. collaboration, and confidence-building. Vocal placements for interested students will be held September 13 from 6:00–9:00 PM. All singers aged 12–20 are invited to participate in a free Choral Clinic on September 19 from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM. CSYC enrollment is not required, though vocal placements are available on that date as well. Vocal placements and the Choral Clinic will take place at 2235 Iyannough Road, West Barnstable. Broad Reach to Assume Operational Management of JML Care Center in Falmouth

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce a partnership with Broad Reach Healthcare and JML Care Center to further enhancing access to high-quality, exceptional skilled nursing care for the upper Cape community and beyond. Broad Reach Healthcare is the owner of Liberty Commons Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Chatham, a nationally recognized leader in its field and the Cape’s premier provider of skilled nursing services that has served the community for 40 years.

Located on the campus of Falmouth Hospital, JML Care Center is a state-of-the-art 132-bed skilled nursing, long-term care and short-term rehabilitation facility which completed a renovation in 2022. The center originally opened in 1989 as a philanthropic gift from Josiah K. Lilly, III, in honor of his late wife, Josephine M. Lilly, and provides a broad range of services and individualized care for patients, supporting the transition to independent or assisted living following a hospital stay, as well as long-term care.

Effective September 1, 2026, Broad Reach Healthcare will assume operational management of JML Care Center, which will remain fully owned by Cape Cod Healthcare. In 1903 Ida Putnam founded the historic Green Briar Jam Kitchen in East Sandwich and created an iconic Cape Cod Business. The Green Briar property was purchased by the Thornton W. Burgess Society in 1979 from Martha Blake, who had worked in Ida’s kitchen for many years and took over the business at her death in 1950. Since the 1980’s popular jam making classes have been offered to the public. Join instructor Addie Vestal for a unique experience making your own four to six jars of something special to take home and enjoy or give as a gift. All materials are provided. The following two hour classes for adults begin at 10am: Wednesday, September 2 make plum nectarine jam; Thursday, September 10 make plum jam; Wednesday, September 16 make apple plum jam; Thursday, September 17 make apple plum jam. SBA Offers Relief to Massachusetts Businesses and Private Nonprofits Affected by Blizzard
Low-interest disaster loans now available
WASHINGTON —The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans to small businesses and private nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts to offset economic losses caused by a blizzard occurring Feb. 22 – 27. The disaster declaration covers the Massachusetts counties of Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, and Suffolk, as well as the Rhode Island counties of Bristol, Newport, and Providence, which are eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA.
Under this declaration, the SBA’s EIDL program is available to eligible small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, and PNPs — including faith-based organizations — with financial losses directly related to this disaster. The SBA is unable to provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers, or ranchers, except for aquaculture enterprises.
EIDLs are available for working capital needs caused by the disaster and are available even if the small business or PNP did not suffer any physical damage. The loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills which could not be paid due to the disaster.
“SBA loans help eligible small businesses and private nonprofits cover operating expenses after a disaster, which is crucial for their recovery,” said Chris Stallings, Associate Administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA. “These loans not only help business owners get back on their feet but also play a key role in sustaining local economies in the aftermath of a disaster.”
The loan amount can be up to $2 million with interest rates as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for PNPs, with terms of up to 30 years. Interest does not accrue, and payments are not due until 12 months from the date of the first loan disbursement. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms based on each applicant’s financial condition.
On Thursday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 24, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the SBA Business Recovery Centers in counties of Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, and Plymouth to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process, and help individuals complete their application. Walk-ins are welcome, and you can schedule an in-person appointment in advance at appointment.sba.gov.

Community Health Center Announces 26th Annual Golf Tournament

Mashpee – Community Health Center is pleased to announce its 26th Annual Golf Tournament, which will take place on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Pocasset Golf Club.

Over the past 25 years, CHC’s Annual Golf Tournament has become a signature community event and a highlight of the year for supporters across Cape Cod. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, players, and volunteers, the tournament has raised more than $1.5 million to support CHC’s mission of providing patient-centered, high-quality, compassionate care to all, regardless of ability to pay.

This year’s tournament will directly support CHC’s ongoing efforts to expand access to care through the development of a new state-of-the-art Sandwich health center. The new facility will enhance access to primary and preventive care while addressing critical community health needs, including chronic disease management and substance use disorder services. Once completed, the location will serve as a comprehensive medical home for up to 5,000 patients and will also expand outreach, enrollment, and enabling services, with a focus on underserved populations.

The CHC Golf Tournament has sold out in recent years, and supporters are encouraged to register early to secure their spot for what is often referred to as “the Best Monday of the Year.” The volunteer planning committee has been working diligently to ensure a memorable day for all participants. Participants will enjoy a day of golf, networking, and community engagement, all in support of a transformational project to shape access to health care services locally.
