College Light Opera Company Announces 2021 Season Lineup
FALMOUTH — It’s here! The announcement Cape Cod theater-goers have been waiting for.
The College Light Opera Company (CLOC) is excited to announce the shows of the 2021 Season. The
theatre company has an exciting summer planned filled with musicals, operettas, and even a new
work!
The season will open on Tuesday, June 22nd with a beloved CLOC staple - The Pirates of
Penzance. Join a band of swashbuckling buccaneers, bumbling British bobbies, frolicsome
Victorian maidens, and a delightfully dotty “model of a modern Major-General” for a rollicking romp
over the rocky coast of Cornwall. You won’t want to miss this reimagined Gilbert and Sullivan classic!
For the company’s second slot, travel back to the World War I-era with Very Good Eddie. With
music by Jerome Kern (Show Boat) and book by Philip Bartholomae and Guy Bolton, this romantic
comedy follows the story of Eddie, a very short man, newly married to the extremely tall Georgina.
As they honeymoon aboard a Hudson River day liner to the Catskills, they encounter a very tall
athlete named Percy and his new wife, the diminutive Elsie. When the couples accidentally trade
partners, chaos ensues.
The 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder,
takes the company’s third slot of the season. This comedy is a murderous romp filled with
unforgettable music and non-stop laughs as the low-born Monty Navarro sets off down a ghoulish
path to knock off his relatives and become the next Earl of Highhurst. But at the same time, love
triangles have begun to form and now murder isn't the only thing on Monty's mind....
Another Tony Award winner for Best Musical takes the fourth slot in CLOC’s 2021 season, The
Pajama Game. This toe-tappin, comedic love story is utterly timeless - having been made both into
a film and two Broadway revivals. With an energetic score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross (Damn
Yankees), this musical about a union strike at a pajama factory generates plenty of “steam heat”.
For the company’s fifth show of the summer, one of Leonard Bernstein’s most heartfelt scores will be
performed. Trouble in Tahiti is a one-act opera broken down into eight scenes. Taking place over
the course of one day, the beautiful piece explores the marital struggles between Sam, a successful
businessman, and Dinah, a frustrated housewife, in 1950s America. But beneath the couple's discord
is a profound longing for love and acceptance.
Follow the yellow brick road with CLOC for their sixth show of the summer, The Wizard of Oz.
This beloved classic will be a hit with the entire family, including everyone’s favorite songs such as
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “If I Only Had a Brain”, and “We’re Off to See the Wizard”.
Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women will be the seventh show of this summer.
Join the four March girls - Beth, Amy, Meg and Jo - as they grow up right here in Massachusetts and
learn about the true meaning of love, family, and what it means to be a woman.
The Sorcerer, another Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, takes the spot for slot #8. Laughs will be had
when young Alexis invites family sorcerer, J. W. Wells, to brew a love potion and topsy-turviness
ensues. Everyone in the village inevitably falls for the wrong person resulting in a tangled web of
mismatched lovers. Will Alexis be able to break the spell or will it come at a price?
For the ninth and final slot of the 2021 Season, CLOC is extremely excited to announce the New
England premiere of a new musical entitled The Danger Year, written by composer and CLOC
Alum Georgia Stitt. After spending numerous summers at CLOC, Georgia has gone on to release
multiple studio albums of her own work, write her own musicals, and assistant conduct on
Broadway, Off-Broadway and in television.
Some important changes have been made for the 2021 Season due to COVID-19. Performers and
audience members will be required to wear masks at all times and follow appropriate social
distancing. The company is planning on 25-35% capacity at the Highfield Theater and there will be
no intermissions. Run times will be shortened accordingly.
In an attempt to make this summer’s productions as accessible as possible, CLOC is excited to
introduce a live-streaming option on Saturday nights so that patrons may watch performances from
the comfort of their own home.
There will also be some changes this year unrelated to COVID-19. Evening curtain times will be
moved from 8PM to 7:30PM. The company will also be adding a Wednesday matinee at 2PM and
discontinuing Thursday evening performances. Ticket subscrip
