Major Gift Benefits Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (BID-Plymouth) announced today it has received a $730,000 donation from the estate of Maureen A. Tomaso-Stares. Ms. Tomaso-Stares, a Plymouth resident who passed away in 2017, directed her gift to benefit the hospital’s Cancer Center, where she was a patient.

To honor Maureen and recognize her extraordinary donation, more than 50 family members, friends, and BID-Plymouth employees gathered in the BID-Plymouth Cancer Center on August 5, 2019 for the dedication of the Maureen A. Tomaso-Stares Waiting Room. Guests shared memories of Maureen during the evening reception and heard from several speakers, including Dr. Matt Koomey, Medical Director of the Cancer Center, and William B. Stares, Maureen’s husband.

Remarking on the impact of the donation, Kevin Coughlin, President of BID-Plymouth, stated “Maureen’s generous donation for our Cancer Center will allow us to add two new treatment rooms, update one of our infusion rooms, and improve the waiting room experience for other patients and loved ones. Maureen leaves a legacy of kindness and generosity through her gift of care and comfort for others. And for that we are truly grateful.”

Planning is underway for the Caner Center’s expansion and renovation.
