Big Brothers Big Sisters Celebrates Mentoring Cape Cod Beer

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands (BBBS) will be celebrating National Mentoring Month with the help of Cape Cod Beer on January 31st, 2019 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Cape Cod Beer’s Brewery. The Celebration of Mentoring Night is in its third year and is once again spearheaded by the “Big Council” consisting of 12 Big Brothers and Big Sisters whose goal is to help further & advance the mission of BBBS through volunteer recruitment.

“Three years ago we developed this idea for the community to meet other Bigs and get a first account of what it’s like to be a mentor” said JR Mell, Regional Director for BBBS. “I am so thankful to our Big Council Members who not only spend quality 1:1 time with their Littles every month, they have stepped up to put on this event and help reduce the number of kids waiting for a mentor!”

Cape Cod Beer has generously donated the space in honor of National Mentoring Month and there is no admission fee (although a $10 donation is appreciated). In addition, Cape Cod Title & Escrow, and MyGenerationEngery, have sponsored to help defray the cost of the event. The event will include food, a cash bar, music, lawn style games and raffle items—including a Grand Prize Raffle which features 3 Red Sox Tickets (behind home plate!) and a one night stay at the Hotel Commonwealth. Pre-Registration is suggested and guests must be 21 or older to attend. Registration and more information can be found at BBBS of Cape Cod & the Islands Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/capebigs or call 508-771-5150 x101

“I got involved with being a Big several years ago at an event like this” says Big Council Member Jamie Brids. “My friend was a Big and invited me to get to know more about the agency and what is involved with being a mentor. I was matched with my Little Sister for over 3 years and I’m excited to be on the Big Council to help recruit more mentors for the almost 80 kids currently waiting.” Brids encourages anyone who may want to learn more about BBBS or who supports youth mentoring to attend, meet current Bigs and learn firsthand about the program.
